Patrick: Thanks. I noted the Tambora/Krakatoa mix-up in the show notes, but I probably should have added a correction in the audio.

According to Wikipedia, the Year Without a Summer also had the affect of Joseph Smith founding Mormonism. So it’s not all inspired works of fiction and glorious sunset paintings. Payback for those positives is getting woken up on a Sunday morning by chaps in suits riding bicycles. Urgh.

Great podcast, thanks for doing them.

It was the 1815 Tambora event that caused the “Year without a summer” in New England, and the William Turner sunset paintings in London. Many think that it was also inspired Mary Shelley to write Frankenstein, written during that same summer.

Yeah, I was pretty pleased with this one. The next one should be good too, with the Japanese earthquake to talk about, the flooding in the mid-west of the USA and more progress on the Phoenix mission. Plus the recently discovered extra-solar super-earths should make for a lively discussion.

Hopefully everything falls into place so you can make it, Brian.
